About Acme

Acme Supplies Limited has been in business for over 50 years and is a New Zealand import-distributor and marketer of leading brands across the adhesive, art & craft, education, office, and packaging categories.

Pain Points

Scaling Issues

As Acme prepared for continued business growth, their existing storage facilities were no longer sufficient to meet their expanding needs. With the construction of a new warehouse underway, they needed a storage solution designed to maximise capacity and operational efficiency for incoming shipments.

Future-Proofing

Recognising their upward growth trajectory, Acme planned for a warehouse significantly larger than their current requirements. However, they were concerned about the potential to outgrow the facility sooner than anticipated. This required a flexible design that could adapt to future storage demands.

Challenge

Acme’s new warehouse needed to be operational before the start of December to align with their business cycle. As a leading supplier of school stationery, Acme’s busiest period required ample storage for incoming containers of products.

The warehouse construction was meticulously planned, involving multiple contractors. Shelving Shop Group needed to seamlessly integrate their racking solution into this larger timeline and collaborate effectively to ensure that storage was ready without disrupting other construction phases.

Solution

Time Constraints

The project followed a structured timeline to meet the December deadline. Shelving Shop Group created detailed Gant charts, aligning their installation schedule with the warehouse construction timeline and the anticipated arrival of Acme’s product containers. This ensured a smooth, well-coordinated effort among all parties involved.

Future-Proofing

To address Acme’s growth concerns, the racking system was designed as a two-stage build. Initially, shelving was tightly compressed with narrower aisles, significantly increasing the number of pallet bays. This allowed the warehouse to accommodate current and near-term needs efficiently. A second stage was planned for future expansion, enabling additional racking to be installed as the business grows, ensuring long-term scalability.

Results

Completed on Schedule

The warehouse was completed and fully operational on schedule, meeting Acme’s requirement to store incoming stock before their peak season.

Maximised Storage

A total of 5,160 pallets were accommodated in the initial racking design, maximising the warehouse’s capacity.

Scalable Plan

The two-stage racking system provided immediate functionality while ensuring the flexibility to scale storage as Acme’s needs evolve. This forward-thinking approach empowered Acme to seamlessly transition into their new facility, aligning with their current growth and preparing for future expansion with confidence.
